Your biology progress belongs to you.
This notice explains what the STEM Nodes project and its hosting services process, what enters the learning database, and the controls available to every learner.
What is stored
Your chosen starting level and daily goal, XP, hearts, streak, completed lessons, scores, unit mastery and missed-answer review items are stored. Signed-in learners are connected through a Google account identifier and can synchronize progress across supported devices. Anonymous learners use a random identifier saved on their device.
Google sign-in and identity
Google sign-in is optional. Google supplies a verified account identifier, email address and display name after you choose to continue. STEM Nodes stores the account identifier with learning progress; the email and display name stay inside a signed, secure session cookie used to display the active account. STEM Nodes requests no access to Gmail, Google Drive, contacts or other Google content.
Device, voice and hosting data
The app uses browser storage for a random device identifier, progress fallback and sound preference. Read-aloud uses a compatible UK female voice on your device; STEM Nodes does not send lesson text to a separate voice provider. Cloudflare may set an essential security cookie such as __cf_bm and process ordinary connection information to deliver and protect the service.
How the data is used
Progress data unlocks lessons, restores your journey, calculates XP and streaks, and schedules missed concepts for review. An anonymous device journey can merge into a signed-in account. Data is not sold, used for targeted advertising or used to build a public learner profile.
Anonymous learning-quality counters
STEM Nodes separately counts lesson starts and completions, correct and retry signals, explanation ratings, and structured accuracy, wording, visual or accessibility reports. These aggregate counters contain no learner identifier, name, email address, typed answer or voice recording. The public Learning Quality Lab explains how they guide editorial review.
Retention and protection
Learner progress currently remains until you delete it. Anonymous quality counters remain for longitudinal editorial comparison but do not identify a learner. Encrypted operator backups, when created, follow the documented retention and restore procedure. HTTPS, access-controlled storage, bounded requests and tested release controls reduce risk, but no online service can promise absolute security.
Your choices and younger learners
You can learn without signing in, export a readable copy, delete progress and stop using the service. A parent, guardian or teacher helping a younger learner can use the same controls on that learner’s device or signed-in account. Do not place private information in public issue trackers; the app itself does not request free-form personal profiles or messages.
Deleting progress is permanent. Export first if you would like to keep a personal copy. Read the educational-use terms or return to Biology.
